Welcome to Robin Class
Children: Reception
Welcome to Robins Class!
Hi Robins! Welcome to the summer term! We hope you had a lovely Easter break with your families and that the Easter Bunny was kind to you. Have you spotted any signs of summer on its way yet? This term you may notice that our expectations rise, in line with the curriculum. You now know our expectations and how to behave in school – our job now is to get you ready for year 1! Enjoy your final term in reception and come to school every day ready to grow J

PE days:
Robins PE day is on a Thursday. We ask children to come in to school ready dressed in their PE kit on this day. A reminder of our school PE kit:
- - White, black or blue shorts
- - Plain white or blue T-shirt
- - Plimsolls or trainers
- - White, black or blue tracksuits
Children should NOT wear football tops or hoodies for PE.
Phonics:
This half term we will continue to introduce children to our wonderfully interactive and engaging phonics scheme, ‘Bug Club’. Children thrived in the first and second term, learning all of the phonemes in phase 2 and we have now moved on to phase 3. Children are continuing on their journey through all the different digraphs and trigraphs. We are practising reading and writing these phonemes in isolation as well as in context. If you need any further information or support with phonics, please don’t hesitate to ask Mrs Upson.
Mathematics:
Children in Robins will be taught maths explicitly for 4 days of the week (from their 3rd week of schooling). We follow the ‘White Rose’ scheme of work – they provide colourful, interactive power points to share with the children and we use these alongside songs, rhyme and many different hands on, engaging activities. We follow up this work by offering children the chance to explore new concepts they have learned during ‘busy learning’ time. We document activities children have enjoyed on Tapestry, so do look out for these updates as these will also provide beneficial home learning opportunities. During the Spring term we cover the following topics:

**We are spending one week on 3D shapes as we didn’t quite finish this in Spring term.
Homework:
We would encourage you to hear your children to read for 5-10 each night – this will help with their fluency and understanding. Please do send their books back to school each day as we also hear children read as often as we can.
